Frequently Asked Questions

Is it okay to run around naked?

  • No - this is a family event, so please make sure you're clothed.

What if it's raining?

  • Then things get wet?  We're not fair-weathered pagans and only the Wicked Witch of the West melts when she's wet, so PaganFest will go on.

I live nearby but I want to attend the rituals, can I?

  • Yes, you can purchase an Extended Day Tripper pass for either one or both days and this will allow you to stay onsite later than 6pm.  If you want you can also purchase feast and/or Sunday dinner.

I'm not actually Pagan, is it still okay for me to come along?

    • Of course it is.  We are open to any body who wishes to attend.  We do not discriminate for any reason.  We just ask that people show respect when they attend the festival.

The registration forms are confusing, can you break them down for me?

  • Sure let's see if I can clarify things.

    • Day Trippers

      • These are people who are not going to stay the night, will only be there during the day and will leave the festival site by 6pm.  There are no feast options and they will be unable to attend the rituals on either night.

      • Cost is $12 for 1 day, or $20 for Sat and Sun for Adults - half price for children (12 and under) making it $6 for 1 day or $10 for both.

      • Fill in the Day Tripper registration form, or just come along on the day.

    • Extended Day Trippers

      • These people will NOT be staying overnight (they have a warm bed elsewhere) but would like to stay later than the 6pm gate closure time to participate in rituals etc.  The option can be for either Saturday or Sunday or both if they wish.  If you're staying late on either day then you might like to have dinner so you can also purchase Sunday dinner or the Saturday feast.

      • This option is only available to those 13 years old and over.

      • Cost is $22 for one day, or $35 for both Saturday and Sunday.

      • Fill in the Day Tripper registration form, taking the Extended option.  You'll also be able to add feast and dinner options on this form as well.

    • Campers/Weekend Attendees

      • This is the option for people who are going to come along and stay the night.  You'll be able to attend all the rituals and the Sunday night quiz and anything else we decide to subject you to offer to you. You can either self cater or choose our catered meal option.  Check out the accommodation page for more info about staying overnight.  The Saturday feast is an optional extra for this option.

      • Cost is $120 for adults and $60 for children 12 and under.  This covers Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

      • Fill out the regular Registration Form, where you'll also be able to choose the catered option and/or the Saturday feast.

I don't want to stay the whole day.  Can I get a reduced price?

  • Unfortunately we are charged regardless of how long you stay, so there are no reduced rates for just a quick visit.

I only want to camp for the one night, how much will that cost me?

  • Again we are charged regardless of how long you camp for, so there are no reduced rates for camping only on a single night.

Can I park my car by my room?

  • There is a designated parking area and this will be clearly signposted.  No parking will be allowed on site outside of this area.

I'm part of a group of school friends that want to come along together.  Can we?

  • Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Please make sure that if you are under 16 you will need to have your parent/guardian there.  Note - Saturday and Sunday night rituals are not open to anyone under 13 years unless with prior arrangement with Cauldrons.

Can I get to the site by bus?

  • There is no bus service that goes past the site - it is a little out of the way.  If you require a lift from Christchurch, then please post a message on the Cauldrons PaganFest facebook page to see if there is anyone able to help.  Alternately email us, to see if we know of anyone who may be travelling to the fest at the same time.

  • We've been looking online for different options and it looks like there are shuttles that go from Christchurch to Rangiora and other parts of North Canterbury but they need to be pre-booked.  Call Landways Travel for more info on 03 313 3834.

What do I need to bring with me?

  • Warm clothes are a must - it is Canterbury after all.  Check the Accommodation page for a list of What to Bring.

What food options will be available?

  • Aside from the catered option and Feasts found on the Feast page we will be running a Sausage sizzle/bbq during lunch on both days as well as having sandwiches, soup, muffins etc available for purchase throughout the day.  For those not taking the catered option, there is a kitchen in the Pentacles block as well as a fridge in the main hall.

Will I be able to turn up at the gate (without registering beforehand) and still camp for the weekend?

  • Camping (as in the tent option) shouldn't be a problem as we have a lot of space to play with, and while at this stage there is dorm space available, this may not be the case when you get to the festival (fingers crossed).  The later you leave it, the less options you'll have so if you're planning to rock on up, I would suggest you at least call us to see how we can accommodate you.

Can I pay the price off over time?

  • Of course you can :)  Just send us an email to paganfest@cauldrons.co.nz and we'll sort out a schedule to work for you, as well as give you the guidelines (such as referencing your payments so we don't end up with a whole heap of payments without a clue who they're from).
